Speckles was welcomed to Second Chance Chins on December 4, 2004, along with his female cage-mate, Merlin. Speckles is a hetero beige male, of unknown age. Coming to Second Chance Chins was his second time in an animal rescue. Speckles and Merlin came here because the young son of their former owner had severe allergies to them. On January 8, 2005, Speckles moved to his new home where he now has a friend and companion of his own gender, named Sandy. We received word that Speckles passed away unexpectedly on November 29, 2010. He is missed by his family and by his buddy, Sandy.
RIP Speckles ~ November 29, 2010
Tails was welcomed to Second Chance Chins on October 16, 2004. Tails is a hetero beige male approximately 2 years of age. He is a really nervous, little guy. Tails belonged to a child who simply lost interest in him, which is why he came to us, here at Second Chance Chins. Tails has shown a tendency toward fur-biting (chewing off one's own fur), most likely because he didn't receive much attention and was bored. The first photo below shows very well, what fur-chewing is. This photo was taken shortly after he arrived. The second photo was taken the day he went to his new home. Tails was adopted on January 16, 2005, and has new chinchilla friends to play with in his new home!
Squeaky is a white mosaic male, born September 2, 2002. He is nearly all white with only a little gray on his tail. Squeaky is missing one of the toes on his right front paw. He is the "pushiest" of the group he came in with! When you open the cage door to fill food or give treats, there he is....practically crawling over you or pushing past your hand! He really enjoys running in the wheel and coming over to see what you're up to when you go near the cage! Squeaky was adopted on January 21, 2005. He will definitely be missed here at SCC, as he had been here since April 29, 2004! He has gone to a home where he is the only chin, so he will be spoiled beyond imagination! He has a large, spacious cage and a large wheel to keep him occupied when his new parents aren't around to spoil him! Sadly we received word that Squeaky passed away on November 10, 2009.
RIP Squeaky ~ November 10, 2009
Roro (short for Roberta) was welcomed to Second Chance Chins on December 11, 2004. She is a standard gray chin, born June 1, 2002. She is quite small, weighing about a pound. Her family was relocating and she was not able to go with them. Roro is a little bundle of energy....she LOVES to run in her wheel! She is very sweet, enjoying having her chin scratched (the photo below shows how much she enjoys it!) and getting any attention you care to bestow upon her! She was adopted on February 1, 2005, by the same young lady that adopted Pudge, Prince and Peanut. The hope is that Pudge and Roro will become friends.
Peanut was welcomed to Second Chance Chins on October 16, 2004, along with Frodo. Peanut is a hetero beige male born January of 2004. Peanut was one of 2 chins that we brought from a ranch, where they would have been pelted (killed for their fur) if they were not purchased as a pet. He has, what the vet has said to be an old injury to one of his eyes, so he is at least partially blind in that eye (the "red-eye" in the photos is not a camera problem, beige chins have red eyes). We gave him the name "Peanut" since he is on the small side, and is light brown, just like a peanut shell! We at Second Chance Chins are proud to have had the opportunity to work with this ranch to place some of their chins, and hope to have that opportunity again in the future. On February 1, 2005, Peanut was adopted by the same young lady that adopted Pudge, Prince and Roro. Hopefully, Peanut and Prince will become friends!
Captain and Jack
Captain and Jack were welcomed to Second Chance Chins on November 22, 2004. Jack is a white mosaic male, approximately 5 years of age. Captain is a standard gray male, who is approximately 7 years of age. They came to Second Chance Chins because their former owner had allergies to them. She did try using different litters and bathing dust, but the allergic reactions continued and she felt it best to part with them. Jack is quite shy, and Captain is the curious one that seems to always be trying to make a break for it! They were placed in their new home together on April 28, 2005.
Zander and Wesley, kits of Merlin
These little sweethearts were born right here at Second Chance Chins! They are both male kits of Merlin and Speckles, who were living together before they came here. They were born on March 20, 2005. Wesley is the darker of the two (in front). The photo was taken at three weeks of age. They went to their new homes within a day of each other.
Baby, his brothers Roo, Myley and Spikey joined us here at Second Chance Chins on April 3, 2005, along with their mother, Twitch. They were all loved dearly in their former home, but because of career commitments, time was no longer available for their care and for them to have the attention they deserved. Baby is a hetero beige male, approximately 2 years old. He seems pretty laid back and very gentle. He enjoys running on their flying saucer wheel (I swear this little guy has wings!) He is a little shy, and seems to enjoy being coaxed at treat time! Baby was adopted May 28, 2005 and is inseparable from his wonderful new buddy named Tales (formerly spelled "Tails"), also a former rescue here at Second Chance Chins.
Roo, his brothers Myley, Baby and Spikey joined us here at Second Chance Chins on April 3, 2005, along with their mother, Twitch. They were all loved dearly in their former home, but because of career commitments, time was no longer available for their care and for them to have the attention they deserved. Roo is a standard gray male, approximately 3 years old. He is the talkative one of the bunch, very curious and in the words of his former owner: "a little stinker". His favorite pastime is "causing trouble"! Roo was adopted on June 11, 2005 as a friend for a male homo beige named Joey.
Chester and Furball
Chester and Furball are both standard gray males. They are brothers from different litters. Furball is the "big brother", born June 20, 2004. Chester, his little brother was born September 23, 2004. Their parents are classroom pets and they lived at the school until coming to Second Chance Chins on June 9, 2005. They will be looking for a new home together. They have decided they enjoy the "bachelor" life and want to stay together always. Their entire classroom of family enjoyed their company but knew it was time for them to experience a different lifestyle. They will be missed there, but fond memories of them will live on. Chester is pictured on the right, Furball is on the left. They were adopted on July 10, 2005 and have a new companion, another standard male named Chalupa!
Boozer came to Second Chance Chins on May 5, 2005. My friend Sue deserves the credit for his being here. She noticed a "free to good home" ad in her local paper and contacted me right away. I in turn contacted the owner and he came to us to find his new home! Boozer is a white mosaic (silver) male, approximately 4 years of age. He is quite outgoing and not the least bit shy. He has a hammock in his cage and just loves it to play in, but does not sleep in it. To easily sum it up, he's quite a little ham! Boozer was adopted July 14, 2005 by the same person that adopted Peanut, Pudge, Prince and Roro.
Harry and William
Harry and William joined us here at Second Chance Chins on June 9, 2005. They were transferred to us by the Michigan Humane Society in Rochester Hills. Harry is a black velvet male and William is a standard gray male. They are both approximately a year and a half old. The tips of each of William's ears are missing, probably from birth, but it only serves to add to his personality. Both these boys are just as cute as can be! Second Chance Chins was honored to be contacted by the MHS, and looks forward to a continuing partnership in helping these wonderful little creatures in the future! Harry and William were adopted on July 14, 2005. These little princes will be spoiled in their new home, and I'm sure will enjoy all the love and attention!
Spikey, his brothers Roo, Baby and Myley joined us here at Second Chance Chins on April 3, 2005, along with their mother, Twitch. They were all loved dearly in their former home, but because of career commitments, time was no longer available for their care and for them to have the attention they deserved. Spikey is the youngest of this group and has a great personality. He was adopted on August 16, 2005.
Joey Daniels came to Second Chance Chins on July 29, 2005. Joey is a white mosaic (silver) male born April 22, 2001. He has a white-tipped dark gray tail and a small dark gray spot on his back. He is really a big sweetheart. He came to Second Chance Chins to find a new home, because his former parents didn't feel they had the time any longer to spend the time with him that he deserved, due to their jobs. They were very sad to part with Joey Daniels, but they know that he'll find an awesome new home with a great family and lots of love and attention. Joey was adopted on September 3, 2005 and is being deeply loved and cherished in his new home!
Bouncer we believe to be either a pink/white or a tan/white male, born October of 2001. He joined the Second Chance Chins family on June 4, 2005. His former owner was no longer able to give him the attention he deserved, due to major changes in her life. Her love for Bouncer placed him with us to find him the perfect new home, where he will get the attention that he needs. He was well cared for and deeply loved in his former home. Bouncer is still settling in so details on his personality and photos will wait until he is more comfortable. Update 7/11/05: Bouncer hasn't been feeling very well lately and has visited the vet. He has lost quite a bit of weight and is on medication and special food to help him re-gain his lost weight. His photo will be taken after he has re-gained his strength and is feeling better. Update 7/23/05: Bouncer continues to recover from his illness. He is still eating special food to help regain his lost weight, but he is eating on his own and is on the road to recovery! Update 8/31/05: Bouncer has reached his goal weight (his weight when he arrived), and is slowly being weaned off his special food while we continue to monitor his weight. Hopefully he will be ready to go home with a new mom and/or dad soon! Update 9/15/05: Bouncer is doing excellent now and he is now ready to go to a new home! Bouncer was adopted September 24, 2005 and is living with his new mate, a female black velvet named Gem (Bouncer was neutered). They are inseparable and enjoying the good life, being spoiled rotten by mom!
Tundra is a standard gray female, born Septemer of 2004. She joined us here at Second Chance Chins on July 8, 2005. She was given up because she had started to nip and to spray (urine) at her family. Tundra is in the care of my "chinnie foster-mom" Linda, to slowly work through her defensive posturing. Linda is very patient and has a lot of love to give and I have every confidence that she will be successful in gaining Tundra's trust. When Tundra is made available for adoption, her new family will need to be patient with her. Waiting for her to come to them, rather than being taken from her cage. She doesn't seem to like "new" things added to her environment or being "offered" to her. Tundra was adopted on October 8, 2005 by Linda's husband who just fell in love with her and couldn't let her go! She is "daddy's little girl" now and will enjoy a great life full of great care and spoiling!
George is a very dark, standard gray male, approximately 3 years of age. He is very small but he is a little bundle of energy! He enjoys running on his wheel and sitting in his hammock! George is quite friendly and curious, coming over to visit you when you go near his cage. He also seems to be always smiling, which just makes him irresistible! George came to Second Chance Chins on July 30, 2005 along with Frank, Sienna, Winston and Wilson. He was surrendered to the Capital Area Humane Society in Lansing. The CAHS contacted Second Chance Chins for care information for the five chins they had, and subsequently they were transferred to us! Second Chance Chins is pleased and honored to have had the opportunity to work with such a fine group of people who put the best interest of the animals first, and welcomes working with them in the future. George was adopted on October 29, 2005.
Myley, his brothers Roo, Baby and Spikey joined us here at Second Chance Chins on April 3, 2005, along with their mother, Twitch. They were all loved dearly in their former home, but because of career commitments, time was no longer available for their care and for them to have the attention they deserved. Myley is a standard gray male, approximately 4 years old. Myley is quite outgoing and very friendly. Myley LOVES to run on his flying saucer wheel, and is quite "talkative". He definitely has a strong personality, and is quite outgoing. Myley was adopted November 13, 2005.
Sparky and Princess
Sparky and Princess joined us here at Second Chance Chins on July 17, 2005. They are both friendly females of unknown age. Princess is a standard gray, and Sparky is a hetero beige. They were loved in their former home, and will be missed. Sparky and Princess will be looking for a new forever home together so they can remain best of friends. Sparky particularly loves to run in her wheel! In the photos below, Princess is on the left, Sparky is on the right. These adorable and sweet girls were adopted November 20, 2005 and now live in a mansion of a cage with lots of safe things to keep them busy when they are not out of the cage being spoiled rotten!
Bailey joined us here at Second Chance Chins on November 5, 2005. He came here all the way from the Chicago area along with Toby. Their owners began having an allergic reaction to them, and then their new son began exhibiting signs of allergies as well. It was an extremely difficult decision for them to make, because they love both of them so much. Bailey is a hetero beige male, approximately 3 years of age. He is a little skittish when approached, but he warms up to you very quickly. He seems to be quite curious and loving. Bailey will need a lot of good, healthy chew toys, as he is definitely a chewer! Bailey was adopted on November 25, 2005. He has a wonderful new chinnie-friend named Sandler to play with and is living in a nice big cage with him!
Wilson and Winston
Wilson and Winston are both standard gray males, born approximately June 28, 2005. They are energetic little guys, I can certainly say that! They came in with their mom, Sienna, all of which were surrendered to the Capital Area Humane Society in Lansing. The CAHS contacted Second Chance Chins for care information for the five chins they had, and subsequently they were transferred to us! Second Chance Chins is pleased and honored to have had the opportunity to work with such a fine group of people who put the best interest of the animals first, and welcomes working with them in the future. In the photo, Wilson is on the right, Winston is on the left. These two adorable little guys were adopted as a pair on December 22, 2005.
